When you’re going to buy a house in Spain or another property of any kind, it’s worth spending some money to find out the actual condition of the property you’re buying.

These buildings are usually located on public land, so it may be difficult for them to ultimately become your property.

Some municipalities will be receptive to simply selling you the plot where the building is located, but others won’t. The latter require exchanges, which is a hassle for you, as you have to buy a plot similar to the one you want to buy and exchange it for the plot belonging to the municipality. You’ll then have to pay for another plot and then pay for the new one to make the exchange. All this legal hassle for a building on the plot to become yours can take more than four years.
